Visitors to Paris will be familiar with the pedestrian Pont des Arts, which links the Louvre museum and the left bank. Lovers have taken to attaching padlocks to the bridge and now there are many hundreds "gracing" the 150 metres of the crossing. On Sunday the bridge had to be closed when part of the barrier collapsed threatening to fall on river traffic below.
Repairs are being carried out and the bridge has re-opened. Debate goes on as to whether the padlocks should be removed for both safety and aesthetic reasons or whether they are now part of Paris's romantic image.
