Health service reforms promised

No, not the NHS, but the French "santé". Marysol Touraine, the minister of health, announced yesterday a series of measures that could signal changes from next year. For carte vitale holders no more handing over 23 euros each time you visit the doctor, but an extension of the tiers payant system in use at the pharmacy. Other reforms to the system of reimbursement and hospital charges will follow. Doctors worry that the system will encourage more visits to the surgery if no cash is involved, but it does seem bizarre that you would hand over 23 euros and a week or so later receive a refund of 16 euros (followed by 6 from your complementaire if you have one).
