Tinted car windows banned

We have all seen (maybe some of us own one) cars with totally blacked out windows. The occupants obviously want privacy from prying eyes, but police claim it also prevents them from carrying out controls. The driver may be using a portable telephone, or not wearing a seat belt, or even with a small child or unrestrained dog in the front seats. Therefore the transport ministry will call for the front windows to be made from transparent glass from January next year, with a fine of 135 euros and 3 points deducted from the driver's permis.

Good news and bad news on road deaths

304 people died in road accidents in July, the lowest total in 60 years, but the total deaths in the year to date are higher than last year. At 1833 the total is 72 more than 2013, when the death toll was 3268. It looks as if even more stringent controls will be needed to achieve the government's target of fewer than 2000 deaths by 2020.

The radar at Maleville attacked and burnt

Qui en veut au radar automatique de contrôle de vitesse installé sur le CD 1, non loin du Fraysse, commune de Maleville ? L’un de ceux qui flashent le plus en Aveyron

Val says this radar when it was first installed gave me my one and only driving point. I was cross as I was only 1 point over the  designated speed. It is the  "most flashy in Aveyron" or it was till it was vandalised two weeks ago.
