Université Populaire at Caussade

Hi Val,

I wanted to let your readers know about the Université Populaire in Caussade. It's a fantasic association which offers lots of different courses and activities, from cooking, to wood carving, mosaic making, Italian, stained glass window making and much more. They also organise free lectures throughout the year, on various different subjects.

The courses are subsidised and very reasonably priced. It seems to me that as well as learning something new, it's a great resource for English people who live here and who want to meet French people and improve their French. The current President, Madame Dejean-Servieres, is very keen to open the association up to a wider public, which is why I am writing about it.

I have to admit that I also have a personal reason, which is that I teach English there, and am running a new workshop - 'FRANGLAISCHANGE!' -  for English and French people to meet and chat, and practice the language they're learning. At the moment, six enthusiastic French people have enrolled, and not a single English person, which is sad. But I wonder if it's partly because people don't know about the Université.

So here's a link to their site, where you can download their 2017-2018 programme:  http://www.up-caussade.fr/

To enrol, you have to go to a 'permanence' on Monday or Thursday afternoon, but all the details are in the programme. The courses all start at the beginning of October.

Best wishes,

Laetitia Lacey

INTENSIVE BEGINNERS FRENCH COURSE STARTING NEXT WEEK

Hello Val,

Langues Ensemble, our Language School in Saint-Antonin, is running an Intensive Beginners French Course for 4 weeks starting next Monday 3rd November.

This course will provide an introduction and practice of the basics in French grammar and vocabulary, with plenty of speaking and listening practice. Students will have 2 X 2hr lessons per week, with two different teachers, and homework to complete between the lessons.

The course is also suitable for students with some knowledge of French, who wish to revise the basics, and consolidate and practice what they have already learned.

Contact Colin Dehoux at langues.ensemble@gmail.com for more information and enrolment.
Best wishes,
Colin and Laetitia

Jacynth Crozier, find her in the adverts

Dear Val,
Thank you. Here is a little bit about myself and my work.
I am English but I grew up on the continent, going to a French school from
the age of 3 and then university, first at Montpellier and then at
Aix-en-Provence, to study medieval archaeology. I worked as an archaeologist
in the Languedoc-Roussillon region until mid 2011, when the situation became
no longer viable. As it became obvious that I was going to have to find
something else to do, the idea of working as a translator grew. Speaking
fluent French and English and being competent in Spanish and Catalan, it
seemed the obvious choice. So after re-training and some administrative help
and advice about starting my own business, Crozier Traductions was born.

My idea, from the start, was not only to work on translating documents, but
also to help English speaking residents with situations they might find
difficult or stressful. I can accompany them to meetings to help translate,
write letters or make phone calls for them or take the problem off their
hands and deal with it for them. These situations range from issues at the
bank, to taxes, insurance claims or problems with the phone company, to name
just a few. I also give French lessons or, for those with good French but
who would like to practice it more, French discussion. I am situated near
Najac, in the Aveyron, so I am not far from Villefranche, Saint-Antonin,
Cordes or the areas thereabouts.

Thank you again, and thank you for making TAG such an interesting and
enjoyable read.
Kind regards,
Jacynth

French lessons

Dear Val,

Having just come back from a meeting with many ex-pats at the Salle des Fêtes in St. Antonin this evening I am inspired to act! One of the issues raised was the lack of affordable French lessons. Unfortunately I am unable to offer my lessons for free as I am a working mum with a family to support, but I hope that the following may be of help and be affordable to all. In addition to my current lessons - two-hour group sessions at 17.50 Euros a session and individual lessons for 20 Euros an hour- and in the interests of providing an inexpensive service, I now propose to offer Friday morning group classes-beginners- 9.30-10.30 and intermediates 10.45-11.45 at 9 Euros per person (free tea and coffee!). The class size will be for six people and will run for ten weeks at a time. The 90 Euro course fee will apply as of the second week- those who do not feel that the class has suited their needs can therefore choose not to return to the second lesson and so will not be asked to pay- I just ask that people let me know. I currently teach a number of ex-pats and am pleased to say that their comments have been very positive over the last four years. I cover everything from day-to-day conversations with neighbours to asking for advice at the bank, doctors and the mairie. So come and give me a go! To book your place, please contact me at the following e-mail address- michelle.jones0311@orange.fr .
A bientôt!
Val says - not only is Michelle doing cheaper French lessons but she has made a donation to Via Sahel enfants d' afrique, many thanks Michelle

French courses by Colin

After quite a while without any changes, here are some informations that I'd like to update if you don't mind about my French courses.
The first thing is that my phone number is now 06 63 43 72 77, the one on the advert is no longer available.
One other thing changed about my prices. Regarding the 1-1 courses, they now last 1h15 and I charge 20€.
I would be really happy if you could update these infos, so that the viewers would have then the correct phone number and price.
Thank you very much for your help,
And sorry, I forgot to mention our website,

Terrific Teacher of French

Colin Dehoux is a terrific French teacher (and French). He offers groups and one-to-one and has classes of various different levels (Debutant, Intermediate and Advanced) at the moment in different locations (St A, Verfeil and Caylus).

Feedback about his classes is consistently positive. He allocates people to groups on the basis of a test which is a very good
discriminator of level.

Currently, if paid in advanced for a course of ten sessions it is 10€ per person for 1h30 in a group and 20€ individually for 1h15.

Colin has the French equivalent of TEFAL. He is Cambridge educated and fluent in English.

He can be contacted on 06 63 43 72 77 or langues.ensemble@gmail.com,
or there is a website: http://languesensemble.org

Comments from students-
I would strongly recommend Michelle's classes to anyone wishing to start out, brush up or further themselves. I for one will be going back in the hope I've remembered all I've learnt and hopefully push myself a little more. Thanks to Michelle, I'm now not afraid to begin a conversation with anyone in French.(KS)
Michelle's lessons have always been professional, full of enthusiasm and most importantly engaging. We have learnt so much in such a short space of time and we are very much looking forward to next term! (LG)
