Snow horses

Woke again with a horse missing. Just what we wanted to avoid when the donkeys left, as they were adept at escaping when there was little food left in the field. Fortunately when it was light old Mario was spotted in a neighbouring field and led back to the enclosure.
Happily it was not snowing this morning (though the rain was cold), whereas yesterday afternoon we had a decent shower of snow, forcing Mario to hide in the cabin, leaving poor Margaux to brave the elements.

No snow is forecast for this area for the next seven days.

A couple of lovely kittens

Can anyone give  loving homes to these tinies? 

One is a  grey tabby and one a smoother-haired tortoiseshell with a little kink at the end of her tail.   

Born on 7th September,   these babies  were abandoned on a door-step before even  their eyes were open.

These kittens  are hand-reared and  they are  loving, confident and VERY purry!   

These sister-kittens are  10 weeks old now and are ready to step out into the world -

 and  into someone's  heart and home. 

They are eating solid food  (not bottle-fed now!),  have litter-trained themselves and entertain each other endlessly. 

They have been introduced to cat-friendly dogs.      When the time is right,  their  sterilisation operation  will be FREE but obligatory. Further details available concerning this  later.

Freddy's bad day

where did I leave that rabbit?

Looking out of the window this morning we saw Mrs Rabbit haring across the field, with Freddy our cat looking interestedly at a small brown, furry object in the grass. "He's caught a baby rabbit we thought".

Next thing, Max our other cat said "I'm the top cat here; it's my rabbit" and off he went with Freddy's prize.

what, this one?

Coming back from our walk Eldo raced into the garden in pursuit, we imagined, of a rabbit. But no, his barking sent poor Fred scurrying to the top of a tree.

We are pleased to say that Fred is now back on terra firma and asleep under a bookcase, having exchanged friendly greetings with Eldo.
Max has not returned yet, sleeping off his rabbit breakfast no doubt.

Equality, liberty, fraternity for hens!

This morning Penny arrived with a banner in the courtyard saying ," Where is the equality in this household" She strutted about waving it,  passing the noses of the dogs.
We do not feed Penny the edges of toast or croissant as we do the dogs and each morning she does a dash at the dogs scraps all to no avail.
This morning must have been the last straw,  she must have been up all night in her henhouse working on the banner. She certainly knows her rights that chicken!

OH! go on it conjures up a lovely image, I wish I was a cartoonist and could complete the picture with a sketch.
Malc says sorry Penny, some are more equal than others and you are bottom of the pecking order.
Val says  You just cannot please some hens, after all she does have liberty and fraternity.

Old Penny is on her own

Our lonely hen Penny who has outlived two of her compatriots sat with us in the sunny courtyard today. She looks quite sad as she wanders around on her own but we have decided she could not cope with a new young aggressive newcomer. There is a pecking order and Penny has never been up for a pecking match, she is the sort of hen who would wear a CND badge.
Malc and I discussed how she would manage on her own in the winter months with no one to snuggle up to. Having done some research on the net this cuddly hen toy could be an option. Any other ideas readers?
Who will be able to resist this one!
