Local farmers hit with blue tongue disease

Actually it is their sheep who are infected and 18 Quercy/Rouergue communes have been placed under alert.
The disease is spread by a midge and can be fatal and at least leads to loss of condition mainly in sheep, but also in other ruminants. There is no cure and recovery can take a long time. Measures introduced are restrictions of movement of beasts in a 150 km radius around an infected flock. The disease is not contagious and presents no risk to humans or other animals.
