Many thanks for posting my question about the freezer and of course many thanks to the readers who supplied valuable informative comments. I wonder why it has not happened in previous winters is my only thought.

Val says perhaps we have had more minus temperatures than in previous years and /or the freezer is getting older and the thermostats less accurate.
