Sun and snow

Dear Val and Malcolm,

The sun was shining yesterday afternoon so I decided on a trip to Lac du Gouyre near Bruniquel.  We had never been there, so other than knowing it was a man-made lake, it was going to be a mystery tour.
The lake was created in the late 80's to supply water to the surrounding farming communes.  There is a fishing zone on the northern edge, but the rest is left to nature and to that end there are a couple of bird hides.   Leaving the car park at La Bouriasse, there is a track that runs the full length of the lake but unfortunately it does not go all the way round.  You can make a circular route though (we did) if you continue along the roads, which are quiet and the total distance is just short of 7km.

There were plenty of Cormorants and Crested Grebes and there is a photo of a Cormorant flying over a pair of Grebes in the sun.  Then the weather changed very quickly and these Cormorants on a submerged branch were in the centre of a snowstorm.  But as quick as it started, it finished and we continued along in the sun for the rest of the walk.
