Still trouble at Sivens

Dear Val

We went off to Albi this morning, as usual via the Forest of Sivens. At Barat we were stopped by protesters who were not eco warriers. These were smarlty dressed with 4x4s and a huge old drum burning loads of logs. We weren't sure if they were farmers, hunters or even members of the newly formed residents association.  They were really quite agressive , with one of them trying to bend our windscreenwipers back. Fortunately the gendarme appeared out of one of their vans. There were about six there. They insisted that we turned round and went on a detour, but also insisted that the protesters moved to let us.

Today's Depeche says that there are moves to finally clear the protest. Various groups appealed to a judge asking for an eviction order and he has reserved judgement till Thursday. So presumably the people we met were one of the groups who had asked for the eviction and definitely not the Ecowarriors..

When we returned late this afternoon by another route we could see two other groups of gendames and protesters confronting each otherand various forestry roads blocked by iron railings.
