We all love sprouts at Christmas don't we ?... and what else.

A rare vegetable here in France, even rarer than parsnip/ panais was spotted  in the supermarket at Villefranche, sadly we could not work out what they were called and they were too small, old and squishy to be bothered with. My hero went last Wednesday to Laguepie market and found some there, the first time we have seen them here in years, if ever. Purple, creamy skins, cream flesh, yellow when cooked, hated by public school boys. (along with sprouts and cabbage, I once served cabbage as the vegetable and a guest said " how brave serving cabbage!")
What were we delighted  to find " RUTABAGA"  -  the common turnip or swede. We always had it at Christmas along with the parsnips and the sprouts, and I love the taste. The word  "rutabaga" is also nice to say.
