French media is very concerned with this rally of cars and motorbikes of all types, despite the fact that "Paris" has been dropped from the name, now it's just "Dakar". And what's more it no longer goes to Dakar (Senegal) but takes place entirely in South America. Security fears made the rally abandon its route from the French capital to west Africa some years ago and move lock, stock and barrel to the new world.
Nevertheless the newspapers and TV news cover the 14 day event in detail. Sadly today the news concerns a fatality, as so often. A Polish motorcyclist was found dead during the third stage in strange circumstances. Just seen a report on Telematin as I was writing this.
