L'alambic cambriolé

A real French story this one, you know at the end of a meal with the French sometimes you are lucky enough to be offered an eau de vie de prune. A  really knock you head of drink that a thimble full is usually enough.
The drink is made in a vessel called an alambic and is more often than not owned by one family in a village who has had the right to distill passed down to them. They in return distill all the villagers peaches, prunes, fruit etc to make the  drink eau de vie.
Just on the outskirts of Villefranche " l'alambic des Pesquiés" has been stolen. Bad news for the distiller Michel Pélissier who normally distills for 30 people in his village. All the information has been passed to the gendarmes who along with all the other troubles at the moment have the stolen alambic at the top of their list of crimes to solve!
