The Prime Minister of France has been criticised for suggesting that the head of John Lewis was drunk when he quipped that France was "hopeless and downbeat."
Manuel Valls, on a visit to London, joked that Andy Street, managing director of the retailer, had “drunk too much beer” when he made the derogatory comments late last week.
