..go to prison. A French couple are being threatened with a 30000 euro fine or imprisonment for failing to vaccinate their children against diphtheria, tetanus and polio, which is mandatory. The children also face being excluded from school and may also need to be inoculated against tuberculosis, though that is not legally required.
France and Italy are the only EU countries where these vaccinations are compulsory. The parents concerned are not anti-vaccination, but are worried about additives in the vaccines which they believe can be injurious. Health Minister Marysol Touraine says "freedom stops where public health begins"
