The young lady of 28 went into hospital at Orthez in the Pyrénées Antlantiques to have her baby. It was anticipated to be a difficult birth, sadly local maternity services lacked the expertise for a difficult birth due to lack of funding. The lady died from the procedure of being anesthetised for a caesarian and the anesthetist who performed the operation has been placed "en garde à vue"/ arrested by the gendarmes.
The child survived but the father who one can imagine is distraught is taking action against the hospital. One does not expect this sort of accident in these modern times.
