They are so friendly the French

Something our holidaymakers often say and the UK  holidaymakers in the gite said that to me this morning. They also said "and they so want to speak English. It is hard for us to practise our French, as as soon as they realise we are English they obviously want to reply to us in our language."

Well I was having secret smiles, thinking it  depends very much where you are. Try expecting an elderly rural French agriculteur to break into English and I think you would wait a long time.
It is great though that holidaymakers get this sort of reception and the  "entente cordiale" is spread around and taken back to the UK?
Makes our job as gite renters a lot easier, a happy holiday maker means fewer gripes. (sounds a bit po faced  - but we never get any gripes, what is there to gripe about at Mas del Sol?)
