The bells, the bells at Villefranche

  Dear Val
as promised bell details. It's name is Justine.

Val says I must walk the dogs so will translate after the walk. Dogs duly walked; here is a rough translation.

One ton bell on display in the Collegiale (main church in Villefranche)

You hear them chiming the hours in the heart of the town, but rarely do you see them: the bells that is, in the Collegiale. Currently Villefranchois and visitors have the rare  privilege of seeing close up one of the biggest of them: the D sharp bell in the carillon.
This monumental piece, weighing more than 1 tonne and 1.20 metres in diameter is on show until 3rd September in the choir of the Collegiale, on a cradle used to support the bells of Notre Dame de Paris.
This new bell was cast on the 11th July last at the Cornille Harvard foundry in Villedieu les Poeles in Normandy. The foundry counts the bells of Notre Dame de Paris amongst its credits. The bell was presented to the public at its blessing ceremony celebrated in the Collegiale on 25th July.
In a few weeks time it will take its place with the other 48 bells in the carillon - one of the 10 most remarkable in France.- which is undergoing restoration. It will form one of the most beautiful rings of bells in the south of France.. Able to scale 4 octaves the carillon will be able to do justice to a wide repertoire of music. And Villefranchois and visitors will also be able to witness a spectacle unique in Midi Pyrenees and probably in France itself, the water jets of the fountain in the Place Notre Dame dancing to the rhythm of the bells.
Val says: Marion also tells me that visitors are touching the bell as a token of good wishes ( and good luck too!).
