Bad weather - would kids like museums?

It seems that in July visits to the Paris "Musee des Decouverts" increased by 64%, a result of the mixed weather. Presumably the same applies elsewhere, but do children like such museums? In the UK a debate has been going on after a critic said children are unable to appreciate "Art" and so taking then to galleries is a waste of time. The French press has picked up on the argument and is characteristically sniffy. But is this scepticism based on the fact that French art galleries are called "muséés"  whereas in Britain museums are usually distinct from art galleries. Going to a science museum is a different prospect to confronting a Jackson Pollock or Picasso in the Louvre - or are we underestimating children?
