Autoentrepreneurs still on the increase

The system of small self-employment introduced some years ago in an attempt to reduce the red tape (and heavy charges) involved in setting up a business continues to attract new entrants. Government figures released this week show nearly 1 million autoentrepreneurs. Par contre, many of them make little or no money. There had been plans to reduce the attractiveness of the regime - under pressure from traditional businesses who think the competition is unfair - but with 70000 new businesses,  20% of them by under 30 year olds, the reduction in unemployment figures weighs more heavily. Setting up in business in France can involve you in compulsory training courses and up-front social charges based on guesswork at the time you need your capital, so a system which avoids this is clearly attractive.
