Dear Val
I'm really looking forward to my first Varenly Regatta. I'll be coming along with John & all 3 of our children (Daisy, 7, Poppy, 4 & Oscar, 2) as well as our cousins, Geoff & Mia & their 3 daughters (Natalie, 19, Caitlin, 16 & Tess, 9). We'll bring a picnic & I understand we need to be there by 10.30 but I wonder if you could just clarify a few of points for me:
Where exactly do we go? We'll be coming in from the St Antonin direction.
We don't have our own canoes - will we be able to participate in any races?
How far are the races?
What is the approximate time that the event finishes?
Really looking forward to it, sounds like lots of fun!
Love Debbie
it is a great fun day.
From St. Antonin just come to Varen and then come down to the river in the centre of the village. Find the restaurant the Moulin and then you will see the crowds.
All canoes are provided and anyone who signs on will be able to race. There are childrens races first for under 12's, one adult and one child in each canoe. We do know of lots of children coming, so the trophies will be a great prize for the winners. Each runner up will receive a certificate to prove they were brave enough to participate.
Then the adult races where you cannot choose your partner but get the partner of your dreams [ or not] in the draw. The races are only a short distances round balloons and take just a few minutes. After the races you must stay near the Commodore's table for the prize giving before going off to eat in the picnic field. The ''savy ones'' have already parked their cars and have unloaded picnic tables and chairs [ or a rug] Some people stay till 4 pm but the racing is usually over by 1pm and then it depends how long your picnic takes. It is fun day with the odd thrill and spill.
There are 14 booked in to the Moulin for Fish and chips let me know if that is your prefered option. Please try and be there for 10.30am if you wish to race and sign on. Remember to read the rules provided to avoid accidents and we have had disqualifications in the past so stick to the rules. Any dog there must be kept on a lead.
Malc will publish more on the Regatta before the day.
Val
