Two children had been playing with a dead bat in the garden which was later found to have the rabies virus. The poor young ones are now having to be vaccinated against rabies[not pleasant] This happened in the Savoie region of France
The Savoie prefecture has reminded people not to touch the bodies of injured or dead bats, and not to try and capture them. Call your local DDCSPP ( Direction départementale de la cohésion sociale et de la protection des populations ) for help. -
Bats are wonderful to watch but like any wild creatures are best left alone.
Wish our cats would leave them alone. A few years ago we awoke in the night to find Max jumping about on our bed playing with a bat he had caught. Max the cat named after ''The Wild Things'' of Maurice Sendak. You will all be pleased to hear that we opened the window and the bat escaped.
