Drugs coming over the border

n contrôle au péage sud de Toulouse, sur l'autoroute A 61./DDM, archives
Alicia and Cyril decided to leave their child of 18 months with friends and go for an amorous escapade in Spain. So far so good, but they went wrong by bringing back from Figuera which is just over the border, 147 grammes of heroine.
They have ended up with a prison sentence... not very romantic.
I wonder in all the cars crossing the border how do the" douane" know which ones to stop. We never get stopped but as Malc points out, a couple of British pensioners do not look very likely.

Val says an elderly couple who brought books today said unlike us they are always stopped at borders, what car do they have... a  large black 4x 4.
They looked like drug or gun smugglers we thought as they drove off!!
Gosh hope that is not like Stephen Fry's bad taste joke! We had said that to them whilst they were here and they are people we know!!
