Local producers deplore the weather

Not just our tomatoes blighted by mildew. but the professional growers on the market at Montauban are also fed up with the weather. The maraichers have had to juggle their production to keep the market stalls full, the rain being too frequent to allow things to ripen and to encourage insects and mildew. Similarly the melons are late this year and the vignerons are concerned that the grapes are about 2 weeks late. The rain has swelled the fruit, but it will take a good fortnight of sun to mature the grapes. The Domaine de Montels hopes to have some white  ready for the fete des vendanges on 7th September, with a decent quality harvest. Others think that no very good wine will be produced this year. Let's hope with them that the good weather will come and put a decent end to this summer morose.
