Who stole the statues?

Les Tontons Flingueurs (literally "gun toting uncles") is a comedy crime film made in the 60s which has steadily assumed a cult status with French cinema lovers. From a peaceful retirement in Montauban, a retired gangster is called to Paris to take over the empire of his dying best friend. There he is required to take up arms again to protect his life in a mafia style vendetta. One of the lines in the film is "you should never leave Montauban" - presumably because it's safer there. The film was marked in the city by placing cut-out silhouettes of four of the main characters on a roundabout. Now some prankster (or film fanatic) has stolen two of the figures, which are made in plexi-glass, by simply cutting them off at the ankles.
Police enquiries are on-going.
