Moussa Coulibaly, the 30-year-old man arrested for attacking three French soldiers outside a Jewish community centre in Nice with a knife, has told investigators of his hatred of Jews and the military, a source close to the investigation said.Coulibaly was already known to the police at the time of the attack, having been questioned just days before after he was turned away from Turkey last week.Police arrested him immediately after he knifed the soldiers in broad daylight on Tuesday while they were patrolling outside the Jewish community centre in the French Riviera city as part of reinforced security measures introduced after last month's attacks in Paris that left 17 people dead.Coulibaly on Wednesday spoke of his hatred of France, Jews, the police and military, the source said.
Val says I think this case highlights the security concerns Jews have and also how difficult it is to know if a suspect is dangerous. This man on his way to Syria was turned back at Turkey and was then questioned by gendarmes here. Although they were suspicious they let him go and then he attacked the gendarmes guarding the synagogue. We would be up in arms if the gendarmes just arrested people they have suspicions about but then we are up in arms when these people commit grave acts of violence. It reminds me a bit of the plight of social workers who now are so frightened they will be accused of neglect with children. They often take and make decisions about children placing them in care when this would never had happened in the past. Both hard jobs with an element of " cannot do right for doing wrong"
