Lillies are poisonous to cats

At the Cinema evening Gill Catterall ( who runs a cattery,so does know her cats ) pointed out that although my bunch of lillies looked and smelt good, did I  know they were poisonous to cats. Googled it after the guests had left to find they are extremely poisonous. Did everyone but me know this. Suddenly thought I ought to check out dogs and it would appear dogs are not so affected but are affected by peace lilies, read on.

Toxicity

Peace lilies are moderately toxic. Even a small amount can cause symptoms in a cat or dog, but it does not cause kidney damage like many other lilies since it is not a true lily. A dog's or cat's reaction to a peace lily is caused by small crystal-like formations within the plant's cells. These actually shoot out of the plant when it is bruised or broken, causing irritation of the mouth and gastrointestinal tract.
