84 Charing Cross Road at Théâtre Le Colombier

A lovely sunny evening making drinks in the adjoining garden an enjoyable start to the evening.
There had been a lot of anticipation to this production, a seemingly very popular choice this book of text and letters by Helene Hanff, many remembered the film with Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins.
Patricia Kessler took the part of Helene and very effectively built up the character from the witty and interesting letters sent.
Leslie Clark, playing Frank Doel the bookseller at Marks and Co. also played the part extremely well and the whole play was very believable and I was drawn into this snapshot of their lives. Sad that the couple never got to meet but my feeling was that it was never going to happen, and would such an eccentric lady actually be easy to be friends with face to face. I note all the references in the programme to authors Malc and I knew so well from our bookselling days, and we forget these may be names not common to everyone.
Yet another enjoyable evening, we are so lucky having FET on our doorstep. Thank you to everyone involved.
