French king still rules

On the day when Queen Elizabeth II becomes the longest reigning British monarch, 63 years is still 9 years short of the reign of the Sun King, Louis XIV (1643-1715). The king, however, died at age 77 so actually "reigned" for most of his life, acceding at age 5.
French TV this morning gave a short "youpee" to learn that republican France still leads in the monarchy stakes.
