Dear Val,
Can’t remember if I told you of the ending to the dogs to Sweden story. Having gone into what paperwork would be needed and finding out that the rabies situation is the same as in the UK, ie., the dogs cannot enter the country until three weeks after the vaccination, I contacted the refuge in Sweden, explained the situation to them and told them how much it would cost for each dog PLUS they would have to expenses of coming all the way down here to collect the dogs. I received an email saying they couldn’t wait for three weeks so would have to go through another refuge. I am just wondering where in France they are going to find a refuge rich enough to have 15 dogs, chipped, vaccinated and with rabies vaccinations as well, ready to travel immediately ‘just in case’ !
I have been informed by another refuge that dogs leaving France who are not travelling with their owners have to go through a TRACES system (too long to tell you, anyone interested can Google it) and if there are more than five dogs (I think) the vehicle carrying them has to have special air conditioning, not just the normal conditioning in passenger cars. Incredible that a country where it is almost impossible to bring people who are cruel to their animals to justice, should make it so difficult for the poor beggars to leave to a good life !!
Sue x
Val says that is a shame, what we have to do I think is raise enough money to help refuges be able to do the necessary chipping and vaccination, but I think no refuge is going to vaccinate for rabies, just on the of chance the dog is going to be taken out of the country.
A friend Anne has an idea for a world wide money making scheme, which will be revealed soon. Any other ideas welcomed.
