France pays US Holocaust victims

An agreement has been reached by French and American governments to pay compensation to survivors and their families for the part played by SNCF (French railways) in the deportation of Jews from France during the war.
The Vichy regime cooperated with the Nazis to deport 76000 Jews in cattle wagons supplied by SNCF About 3000 people survived from this journey and they and their families tried to sue SNCF who acknowledged their part, though denying it was any part of their policy. A settlement has been reached under which the French government will pay 60 million dollars to the victims. In a quid pro quo the US will not allow any local actions or block SNCF's bids for business in America.
