New tobacco import rules

Those readers still popping over to Spain or Andorra to top up their tobacco rations should note new regulations from this week Previously you could bring 10 packs per car, now it is 4 packs per person, with similar changes to other tobacco products. Health Minister Marisol Touraine thinks this a backward step following a court decision that previous rules infringed individual rights and she warns that customs officials will be on the alert this weekend to ensure people stick to the rules. Amounts brought in from outside the EU remain unchanged at one pack of cigarettes per person.
