A glass of wine with your cigarette..

Following the post below about tobacco imports, an event is about to start to feed another of our vices - wine.
This week sees the debut of the foires aux vins in the supermarkets. All the chains now hold this annual wine extravaganza at the beginning of September and it accounts for a significant proportion of their sales (over 400 million euros last year). Many of the distributors are now putting their offers on-line, though with some it is just information on what is in the store and with some it is the click and collect method. Carrefour are allowing pre-ordering on-line to be collected on the day the operation is launched. Cdiscount is an entirely on-line operation and starts its 10th sale this week, featuring 100 grands crus and more second wines from major producers. They say that they can give much more information about the wines than an in-store display - though many hypermarkets have "experts" on hand for advice. Casino will be concentrating on "ready to drink wine" and especially good whites from Languedoc.
According to reports Carrefour Markets (and possibly Contacts) start their foire on 19th September, some 10  days after the big stores.
