In all the newspapers today

4 children in a camp colony having their 2 weeks holiday were found intoxicated in their chalet.Sadly one boy aged 8 from the region around Paris has died. The holiday camp has been temporarily closed whilst the inquiry goes on.

Mercredi, en fin de matinée, un enfant de 8 ans, originaire de la région parisienne, est décédé au centre hospitalier du Val d'Ariège. Il séjournait en colonie de vacances à Ascou en compagnie de trente-huit autres enfants de sa commune.

Val says this story gets worse  The children were ill and one died from drinking the water from the taps in the chalet. Even worse is the camp owners knew the water was contaminated at the beginning of July. Drinking water was provided from the beginning of the month by the commune. Presumably the children did not fully understand that the water in the taps was just for washing.
Black marks I would think to the commune for having water coming through the taps that could kill and to organisers and camp owners for  not making children realise how much danger they would be in by drinking from the taps. If it was my child put at such risk I would be beyond furious.
The camp should have been closed when the water was discovered to be contaminated.
Here in Laguepie the colonies have been stopped because their cooking facilities did not come up to scratch, so what went wrong here. These colonies have a duty of care to look after children safely.
