Amazon outsmart French government

The law banning free delivery on books bought on-line introduced by the government last week has failed to have the desired impact on book giant Amazon. They announced that to keep their prices to the consumer as low as possible postage would be 1centime per package. Clearly the legislation needs to be more carefully worded, unless of course the measure was merely a gesture towards the book sellers.
France has about 3500 book shops, of which 600-800 are independent; nevertheless book sales continue to decline in all sectors. We could hazard a guess that it is e-readers such as the Kindle which is responsible for this and not free delivery from Amazon.
