The Regatta at Varen named 'The Varenly Regatta ' [ Henley Regatta , get it!] will be on Wednesday 21 st of August. Every one welcome to canoe in the races and the canoes are provided, come for the picnic or just look 'Cool' on the banks with your glass of champagne or Pimms. Next to the picnic/ camping field in Varen by the Moulin.
This year for the second time the Moulin are offering us a choice of 'Moules frites' or 'fish and chips' for around 12 euros. I have started getting orders for this, so let me know if you want to put your name on the list and which option you prefer. If coming for the picnic get there early to put up your table and mark your pitch with your chairs. Cars can usually be parked in the market place nearby or behind your picnic table. Dogs can be brought but must be kept on a leash. For people wishing to race you need to be there and sign on before 10.30 am, the earlier the better. Then you will be given the list of rules so you now how it all goes.
For orders for the meal email me Val mail@bromlea.com
Come and enjoy the day often with a bit of spectacle, Iga Rewse Davies stripping off her clothes on the bank side, jumping in to perform a rescue is still talked about after many years, but we would be happy if there is some one else who would like to take up the baton. Strip off your clothes, dive in and rescue any one who takes your fancy! It is that sort of day. The event is absolutely FREE [unless you go to the Moulin for lunch]
We do have rules as believe it or not some participants take the racing very seriously.
The 10th edition of the Varen International Regatta.
To avoid any misunderstandings here are the main points you need to bear in mind:
1 we are there to enjoy ourselves - it is not the Olympic Games and is open to all.
2 All competitors must sign on and agree to abide by the rules, which are designed for your safety.
3 All crews are drawn at random by lot and will mainly be mixed crews (depending on numbers)
4 get to know who your partner is and be on hand to start your race when called.
5 Juniors (under 12) must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
6 Remember winners and runners up of heats will go into further rounds
7 Please wait for the winners to be presented with any prizes before dispersing to the picnic.
Copies of the race rules will be available on the day in both English and French.
The race organiser's decision is final.
All that made clear, the sun is going to shine as it always does so come and enjoy the day on or off the water.
