Kestrels learn to feed themselves

Whilst I was out at seven this morning giving the donkeys their morning check over and cuddle, I noticed two baby  kestrels had flown from the dead tree in to the donkey field and were feeding themselves catching crickets. One by one these lovely baby birds will get the idea of feeding themselves and in a few days they will even fancy flying further and further to pastures new. The orioles were in the fig tree when I returned and tomorrow morning we must leave the camera in the kitchen ready to photograph these elusive birds. Even though they are the size of a large woodpecker and bright yellow they are still very shy and often you hear their song with out ever glimpsing them.
