Note the change in feathers

Look at the feathers on my head, Val

Fighting for front position in the nest.
They change so much each day and two chicks of similar size are battling it out to grab the food as parents arrive. They may both fledge on the same day and then at least two other chicks will be in line for feeding. An exciting but nerve wracking time as the chicks leave the nest, especially as we have two dogs and four cats  who are just as interested in their development as we are. When fledging begins until birds can fly in to the tree, dogs and cats are locked in. Initially the front bird tumbles or is pushed out and it sort of flaps to the ramp opposite our salon window. The next step is to fly in to the nearby tree. We heave a sigh of relief when all the birds are in that tree.
