Star gazing

The next three nights will have many organised star gazing events. Here in the south west the Gers town of Fleurance offers the biggest opportunity, although smaller scale events are in local villages.
Astronomers advise early evening to spot planets such as Jupiter and Saturn and late evening, after about 11pm (23h), for the shooting stars of the Perseides, caused by the fragments from the comet Swift-Tuttle which passes close by at this time of year, heading for the constellation Perseus (hence the name).
Sadly the sky looks a bit covered at present.
