One solution to ease the drought

It seems "untopical" to report this after 24 hours of rain, but the weeks of dry weather have led to a severe water shortage in the region and the fruit and vegetable growers of Tarn and Garonne are looking for new ways to overcome this.
We are used to seeing the huge water cannons irrigating the fields of maize but now many agriculteurs are using the drip by drip watering systems used in many domestic gardens. Not only does this save water, but the pressure needed is much lower saving on equipment and power costs.
One regular TAG reader was asking on his Facebook page why his well watered melons were being eaten by mice or other rodents and it was suggested that it was because the mice were thirsty from the drought. Perhaps he should build in little reservoirs to satisfy the beasts and preserve the fruit.
