Lovely concert at Selgues

Bar 4 at Selgues
In the church of St Robert at Selgues (Verfeil 82) the latest event organised by the indefatigable Therese Gautier to fund the restoration and upkeep of this pretty little church was given by a choir from Birmingham called Bar 4.
The sixteen voices directed by Darrel Chan sang a selection of mainly sacred music from Thomas Tallis to Gabriel Faure. The  programme also included Monteverdi and a cello solo from Tirke Linnemann, playing a sarabande and gigue by JS Bach.
The group was founded by Bernard Linnemann who has a home in the area and they were invited to play here via mutual friends.

And what a happy circumstance that was. The voices blended beautifully in a programme of music that was powerful, tender and moving. On a very hot afternoon the tiny church was packed by an appreciative audience.
The choir will be performing again, with a different programme, on Friday 7th August at 8pm (20h) in the collegiate church in Villefranche de Rouergue. If you missed today (and even if you didn't) you are  well advised to get to the Friday concert, you will be in for a treat.
