In support of Carolyn

Hi Val

I’m writing this in support of Carolyn’s views about the immigrantsIt’s all well and good thinking that as Christians we should help them, but providing them with food, water, shelter, clothes and money once they have arrived in Europe is not the answer as they convey the news of this generosity back to their countrymen, so that more and more will arrive with less and less, believing that the good people of Europe will provide. How will we honestly feel when our taxes go up,say by 10%, to cover the cost of rescuing the immigrants from the Med and the cost of keeping the ones already here, the cost of accommodation, food, clothing, spending money, education, medical. This money has to come from somewhere; it will be the tax payer whichever country you live in. I am already hearing of hotels in the Dover and Folkestone area being used to house and feed immigrants who each receive £35 per day in addition to their board and lodging, all costs met by the government or rather the tax payer. These costs will be ongoing and increasing year on year.
Now look at a different threat.
The authorities have been monitoring the immigrants at the tunnel for some time yet every night some get through the fences and at least one got through to the U.K. all be it he was arrested just inside the tunnel at Folkestone. Let’s say a terrorist was able to enter the tunnel with a bomb and as a train was passing he or she detonated it. The death toll would be untold and the cost of repair enormous if it was even economical to repair, the cost to the economies of all of Europe would be devastating. I could go on but enough is enough, just to say I agree something has to be done. The current situation can’t continue.  Let ‘stop this knee jerk reaction and collectively think the thing through.

Fortunately Jackie and I are being offered medicines and bedding, keep it coming readers. A knee jerk reaction in favour of helping these displaced, traumatised  people after their journey, is right up my street.
Is the answer in your opinion Brian to leave them with  nothing, to starve and die, thus sending a message to others to stay and die in their own countries?

On the tunnel question, the terrible breach of security should not have happened and could have had serious consequences.
