Two young kestrels out in the tree, two more waiting to go, building up their strength being front of the queue now, being fed by mum and dad. A busy time for the adults keeping everyone fed and happy.
For us our concern is getting the birds flying before cats and dogs pounce. A damaged wing would mean the young kestrels life is over before it starts. We saw this one year when two young kestrels fought over a mouse in the garden, and in the fight one became injured. Without being able to fly and forage the young bird had no chance of survival.
Bonny and Eldo are into lizard chasing at the moment and are enjoying working together in the hunt. We do not think they have ever caught one but there may be a few without tails. They lose their tails when captured to make an escape and tails can grow again.
The vet was here yesterday to treat Lucy's warty ear and the young assistant with him, a girl on her "stage" from school enjoyed brushing the donkeys whilst the vet worked on a very patient Lucy.
This morning we have an early appointment again with the vet to get Eldo vaccinated.
One accepts with pets one spends hours on their care and Malc adds ... and money.
Another hot sunny day in prospect, 28 degrees.
Go to it, Andy Murray - on clay at Roland Garros.
