Cheaper to change your name by deed poll

and get a new passport than to get Ryanair to change the name on your ticket.
A young man's ticket was inadvertently booked in his Facebook alias by his girl friend's father and when he asked the airline to put his real name on the tickets it wanted to charge 150 euros, each way. So he decided to change his name by deed poll and apply for a new passport, total cost 142 euros. Correcting small administrative errors should not cost the airline a great deal and most airlines will change the name on a ticket free if done straight away.
Last time we flew to the UK the sub inadvertently booked himself in twice and the editor not at all (was there a hint?). A call to BA a couple of weeks later and the reservation was corrected and new e-ticket issued within hours at no charge. The reservations clerk and her supervisor recognised the genuine nature of the error and applied common sense. For Ryanair it often makes sense to them to charge customers rather than offer to help.
