Old French Houses

Hi Val
My husband and I live in Verfeil-sur-Seye, moving here to live permanently in July 2014. Having visited the region since 1990, buying and starting repairs to a wonderful old farmstead near Lunac, we became aware of the way that old French houses transform from the original into a modern home. This has not always been in the best interests of the house as original features are usually discarded and the character of the house ironed out. Many English buyers remain sympathetic to the charm that first attracted them to an old French house but don't always know how to keep these qualities.

Old French Houses aims to help English buyers to find beautiful old houses and keep them beautifully French, offering advice on repair and conversion, where to find good local tradesmen, monitoring the project if they are absent and helping them save time and money.  My husband, John, has devoted his working life to the care and repair of old buildings, having worked for the main trusts in England. He has spent nearly 50 years working with specialist repair architects in Bristol. John has written an article in the spring issue of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings Magazine.

We can also give informal advice on issues of repair and conversion. Our new website can be viewed at  www.oldfrenchhouses.com
