How long can you be incarcerated in prison before your case comes to court?

Hopefully none of our readers will be in a position to know from experience  but this thought struck me when I was reading the post about the murder in Cahors. The murder we think was in 2011 and yet the trial is just coming up in court now. Another case I wonder about is the murder at Vabre  Tizac of an English lady a couple of years ago. The suspected culprit the gardener is still held in prison.  This case is slightly different as yet no body has been found, but surely the suspect should be brought to trial rather than held for two or three years before the case goes to the courts. There does seem to me to be an injustice where suspects can be held for long periods with out a trial.
 What do you think reader?
Having googled   How long can I be held in prison before the trial?
Usually, a Crown Court trial should start within 182 days of you going to prison.
Val says clearly there are circumstances where this has not applied.
