One of the big stories in French news this morning is the rise in crimes against women. Thefts against young women have gone up, stealing, phones, handbags and cycles. Households being burgled have gone down, but the rise of domestic violence against women has gone up. A shocking, in the sense "it gives you a shock" film against domestic violence has been made where one sees one woman being hit by a partner and another having her head smacked into a wall. Both Malc and I were affected by it but we had different reactions. Malc felt it would make people think about the problem whilst I felt showing two such graphic events might actually make people feel like doing it. However it has got us talking about the problem so let us hope it has a similar effect in violent households.
Strangely in the last few days there seems to have been a lot of the same topic on the TV in the UK.
