Bon anniversaire, ten years celebrated

Dear Val and Malcolm,

Bon anniversaire

A short hop over to a neighbouring department, the Aveyron, for a day's walking ended close to Millau, home of the floating viaduct.  We had planned to finish our walk to give us plenty of time to arrive for the start of the firework spectacle at 18:00.  We arrived back at the car at 17:30, a bit later than intended; we said to ourselves, we have at least half an hour wiggle room because these things never start on time.  Arriving in Millau at close to 18:00 hours we saw a flash, I checked my speed, no that's fine, then another flash lit up the sky, looking up, the fireworks had started.

We stopped on the side of the road and set-up the camera on the tripod, pointed it in the general direction of the firework display and waited.  The remote control unit I had plugged in to the camera to minimise shake when I pressed the shutter, decided it was having an off day, so the fall-back plan was set the timer, so when I pressed the shutter it would count down from 3 seconds then take a picture.

The fireworks were quite some distance from the viaduct, probably for safety reasons so only one picture has part of a tiny viaduct in it.  After the display we went up to the viewing area and took a picture of the viaduct all lit up.

Val says wonderful and how exciting being there.
