Val says In an earlier post I have given a French site about Autism / AutismeDear Val
Today is World Autism Day and one person in a hundred people have an autism spectrum disorder. They include my grandson Theron now aged nine who is at one end of the spectrum having what is called Aspergers syndrome. He is typical of people with this syndrome having great difficulties with his social skills but last year he wrote a 22,000 word book inhabited by people and creatures who are both unique but also bear a strong resemblance to his own reading - Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings and the Narnia Books. Number two is on the way.Last night there was a very informative documentary on BBC 2 about the recongition of this syndrome and today the British government announced that there would be significant funding to help people with the syndrome. However we still dont know what causes it and what is needed is research and treatment strategies. So World Autism Day is helpful is raising awareness but lets hope that in a few years it will lead to action.Ginny
