It is the time of the vendanges in wine growing areas in France. Our young neighbour was missing last week and we learn now that he was grape picking in Champagne. I notice that Portuguese grape pickers are complaining that they are not paid enough, 700 euros a month including Sundays apparently. I know talking to Gaillac growers they rely on foreign workers, as they say the French do nothing but complain and ask for more money. Trouble is if you work 15 hours some of the young French we know say it is not worth working more as the government will make up the chômage and it is not worth your while to work more. What about Romany gypsies they need the money?
