This morning we will be there.
When we first came to Varen we went twice with other UK residents to the war memorial but ended up incensed when the Maire thanked all the Forces mentioning individual countries but leaving out the UK forces, our boys. Many of us at that time have since stopped going to the ceremony. We have been told that at last years ceremony we were included in the list.
Marcia Scott has sent TAG information about the ceremony this year to remind us all, so it would be great if as many of us as possible could go and support the new spirit of "entente cordiale" and also the memory of all those young men who fought whatever their nationality, and liberated France.
Now I am braver and have better French if the Maire missed us out again I would actually tackle him and ask why he would insult us, but I am sure these moments are in the past.

2014- 68ème Anniversaire de la libération de la France
le 08 MAI 1945
Monsieur le Maire et son Conseil Municipal invitent les administrés ainsi que les Anciens Combattants de toutes les guerres, à assister à la commémoration du 08 mai 1945, qui aura lieu le jeudi 08 mai 2014.
Rassemblement au stade à 11h15 pour les 2 stèles : stade etDocteur Ringuet.
Rassemblement dans la cour du doyenné, devant la Mairie, à 11h45.
Formation du cortège à 11h45. Dépôt de gerbe au monument aux Morts, avec sonnerie aux Morts et Marseillaise.
